Getting started with QuoteCloud

What the QuoteCloud API can and can't do

Straight answers for an estimate: what a call can set, where people stay in the loop, and the details we haven't published yet.

QuoteCloud's API and Zapier actions can create documents from templates with data items and price-table rows, add recipients, send, revise, archive, fetch PDFs and previews, update status and manage contacts and products. They don't tick options, choose content blocks or sign. Endpoints, authentication, rate limits and webhooks aren't published: ask the QuoteCloud team.

What can a call do?

QuoteCloud's actions and searches, by job. Names are exact, as in QuoteCloud's Zapier app.

  • Create and fill

Create Document from a template, with title, subtitle, data items and price-table rows. Upsert Document Image into a named image block.

  • Recipients and sending

Add Document Recipient, Update Document Recipient, Send Document now or scheduled, Reschedule, Cancel or Retry Document Delivery.

  • Change and tidy

Update Document Details and Forecast, Update Document Status, Duplicate or Revise Document, Archive Document, Restore Document, Transfer Document Ownership.

  • Read back

Find Document, Find Document by Field, Find Document Status, Find Latest Document by Status, List Documents, Get Document Page Preview, Generate or Fetch Document PDF Link.

  • Contacts

Create New Contact, Update Contact, Find Contact, Find or Create Contact, List Contacts.

  • Products and the rest

Create Product, Find Product, Find or Create Product, List Products, plus comments and Approve or Reject Document Workflow (Business).

What stays with your team and your client?

  • Your client ticks the options

Optional items and packages come from the template. The client chooses them in the document, and the totals and deposit follow. A call doesn't pre-tick them.

  • The template decides the content

A call fills a template; it doesn't pick which content blocks appear. Use a template per kind of document, and let your code choose the template.

  • Signing and paying happen in the document

Recipients sign and pay in QuoteCloud. eSignatures are on every plan; QuoteCloud Payments is on Essentials and up.

  • Approvals stay human

With Approval Workflow, on Business, a reviewer approves big discounts. A call can record a decision with Approve or Reject Document Workflow, but who decides is up to you.

API, Zapier or Make: what's the difference?

  • Your own code

Full control, inside your product. You need the endpoint and credential from QuoteCloud, a server, and your own retries and logging.

  • Zapier

Every action above plus every document event as a trigger, with no code. Each step uses a task on your Zapier plan.

  • Make

Bring your own: Make's OAuth connection plus calls to QuoteCloud's API or Zapier endpoints. No ready-made QuoteCloud app on Make, and no fee stated either way.

What isn't published yet?

Ask the QuoteCloud team for these before you estimate a build. We'd rather tell you than have you guess.

  • The API reference: endpoints, request and response formats, error codes.
  • The authentication scheme for your own code, and how credentials are issued and rotated.
  • Rate limits, timeouts and retries.
  • Webhooks to your own server: events are documented as Zapier triggers.
  • SDKs or client libraries, and a test account beyond the free trial.
  • Embedding a live document inside your own site or app.

Can and can't questions

Can the API choose content blocks or tick options?

No. A create call fills a template's data items and adds price-table rows. The template decides which content blocks appear, and optional items stay for your client to tick in the document. To send different content, create a template for each kind of document and choose the template in your code.

Are there rate limits on the QuoteCloud API?

They aren't published. Ask the QuoteCloud team for the limits that apply to your account before you build anything that creates documents in bulk. Searches that list documents or products return pages of up to 100 at a time, with a cursor for the next page.

Is there a QuoteCloud SDK?

Not one we publish. Your code calls QuoteCloud's API directly from your server, with the endpoint and credential QuoteCloud gives you, in whatever language your system uses. Zapier is the no-code route: QuoteCloud's Zapier app has every action and trigger on this site.

Can the API sign a document for the client?

No. Recipients sign in the document themselves, on any device and without an account, with eSignatures on every QuoteCloud plan. Your system can add the recipients, send the document and hear through Zapier when each recipient has signed and when signing is complete.
