Getting started with QuoteCloud

Spread bigger purchases with PayPal instalment plans

A home battery is an easier yes in four parts than in one. Set the PayPal button to an instalment plan, and the client signs and starts paying on the same page.

When you add a PayPal button to a QuoteCloud quote or proposal, you can choose an instalment plan instead of a one-time payment. The client signs, then starts the plan with PayPal on the same page, so a bigger purchase is paid in parts. QuoteCloud Payments is on the Essentials plan and up.

Two overlapping panels with sample data. Behind, Tallowwood Solar & Storage's battery proposal TS-2694 for Gareth and Mina Holloway: a 10 kWh battery, inverter, switchboard work and monitoring, $12,078.00 including tax, on a PayPal instalment plan of four payments of $3,019.50; Mina signed and paid the first with PayPal. In front, an illustration of the first instalment on PayPal's side: $3,019.50, completed.

Why offer an instalment plan?

Tallowwood Solar & Storage adds batteries to homes that already have panels. At $12,078.00, energy consultant Nate Carrow found that many households liked the proposal but stalled at the payment, waiting until they could pay it in one go.

So the battery proposal for Gareth and Mina Holloway carries a PayPal button set to an instalment plan: four payments of $3,019.50. Mina signs on Thursday evening and starts the plan with PayPal straight away, and Nate books the install.

  • You choose an instalment plan instead of a one-time payment when you add the PayPal button.
  • The plan is worked out from the price table's total, so an option the client ticks is spread too.
  • Offer it where it helps: bigger purchases such as batteries, fit-outs, courses or events.

One total, four payments

This is the proposal as Mina sees it before she signs. Tick the weather shield and the total rises by $418.00 including tax; each of the four payments rises with it.

After she signs, PayPal's checkout opens on the same page for the first payment. The plan's later payments follow the plan set on the button.

Keep the one-time payment, or a deposit, for smaller jobs, and use the plan where the size of the payment is what holds people back.

Your instalment plan, or PayPal's pay later?

They sound alike but aren't the same thing.

  • The instalment plan you offer

You set it on the PayPal button in your QuoteCloud document, instead of a one-time payment. It's your offer to every client who receives that document.

  • PayPal's own pay-later options

PayPal offers some buyers its own ways to pay over time, such as Pay in 4 or Pay Monthly, where it has them. PayPal decides who sees them; PayPal's pay-later page explains them.

Instalment plan questions

Can clients pay a QuoteCloud quote in instalments with PayPal?

Yes. When you add the PayPal button to a quote or proposal, you can choose an instalment plan instead of a one-time payment. The client signs, then starts the plan with PayPal on the same page. QuoteCloud Payments is on the Essentials plan and up.

How many payments can an instalment plan have?

We haven't confirmed the options yet. The live PayPal page shows a plan of four payments as its example, and that's what this page uses. Try it in your free trial, or book a demo to see the settings for your plan.

Is this the same as PayPal Pay in 4?

No. The instalment plan is the offer you set on the PayPal button in your document. Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly are PayPal's own pay-later options, which PayPal offers to some buyers where it has them. PayPal decides who sees those.

Does each payment follow the options the client ticks?

Yes. The plan is worked out from the price table's total, so an optional item the client ticks before signing is part of what is spread. In the sample, each of the four payments is a quarter of the total, as in the live PayPal page's example.
