Getting started with QuoteCloud

What QuoteCloud with Google Sheets can and can't do

An honest list before you build: what the Zaps do, where they stop, how Zapier and Make compare, and what we haven't confirmed yet.

Zaps can add and update Google Sheets rows on QuoteCloud events, create documents from rows with data items and price-table rows, and create or update products from a price list. They can't keep a sheet and a document in step both ways, tick options, choose content blocks or change a document already sent.

Two overlapping panels with sample data. Behind, Tallowwood Solar & Storage's draft proposal TS-2681, its data items and three price-table rows filled by a Zap from a Google Sheets row, with the template's bird mesh option left for the clients to tick. In front, an illustration of the Proposal requests sheet with the row that created it.

What can the Google Sheets Zaps do?

Each with QuoteCloud's Zapier app, on Essentials and up.

  • Log every event

Add a row when a document is created, sent, viewed, signed, part paid, paid, expires or is lost.

    Quote log
  • Keep a row current

Find a quote's row by its document number and update its status, time and amounts.

    Pipeline tracker
  • Create documents from rows

From your template, with the title, data items, recipient and price-table rows taken from the row.

    Quotes from rows
  • Fill a price table from many rows

Look up to 500 line rows and add them as price-table rows in one Create Document step.

    Price rows from a sheet
  • Create and update products

Find a product by SKU and update it, or create a new one, from a price-list row.

    Price list to products
  • Write Spreadsheet block cells

Zapier can write values into a QuoteCloud Spreadsheet block's cells (client-confirmed); ask us how for your template.

Zapier or Make: which route suits you?

Google Sheets connects through either. Neither is a built-in QuoteCloud connection.

  • Zapier

QuoteCloud's Zapier app has ready-made triggers, actions and searches, and Google Sheets has its own Zapier app: point, click, map. Essentials and up; documents a Zap creates carry US$2.00, $1.80 or $1.60 each by volume.

    Connect it, step by step
  • Make

Bring your own: Make's built-in OAuth connection to QuoteCloud, then QuoteCloud's API or Zapier endpoints called from a scenario, beside Make's own Google Sheets modules. No ready-made QuoteCloud app on Make; you design each step. API access is on Essentials and up.

Where does it stop?

Things the Zaps don't do, so nobody is surprised later.

  • One way per Zap

Each Zap runs one way. Editing a cell doesn't change a document already created, and editing a document doesn't change the sheet unless a Zap writes it.

  • No ticking options

A Zap never ticks optional items or chooses packages: the client does that in the document.

  • No choosing blocks

A Zap doesn't choose which content blocks go in. The template decides the content; the row fills the details.

  • No change after sending

Updating a product's price in the library doesn't change documents already created.

  • No bulk contact import

A Zap adds contacts one row at a time with Find or Create Contact; it isn't a bulk import.

  • Not the Spreadsheet block

Google Sheets and QuoteCloud's Spreadsheet block are separate. Editing your Google Sheet doesn't change a block inside a document.

What we haven't confirmed yet

We only describe what we've checked. These details depend on your account or haven't been tested end to end, so check them in your Zap's test data or ask us.

  • Exactly which fields each QuoteCloud trigger passes, such as the total and the event time. Zapier's help text says Document Status Changed carries line items, totals and signer details.
  • How Create Document's template and data-item fields appear: they load from your account rather than Zapier's public list.
  • The step that writes Spreadsheet block cells through Zapier, and whether the API can write them.
  • Whether documents created from a Make scenario carry the per-document fee.
  • The volumes at which the per-document fee steps down from US$2.00 to $1.80 and $1.60: ask QuoteCloud.

Questions about the limits

Does the Google Sheets connection work both ways?

Not as one link. Each Zap runs one way: a QuoteCloud event can add or update a row, and a new or changed row can create a document or a product. Those are separate Zaps. Editing a cell doesn't change a document that already exists.

Is there a built-in Google Sheets connection in QuoteCloud?

No. Google Sheets connects through QuoteCloud's Zapier app, on Essentials and up, or through Make as a bring-your-own setup with QuoteCloud's API. Every recipe on this site is a Zap you build.

Can a Zap tick options or choose packages for the client?

No. A Zap fills data items and adds price-table rows; it never ticks optional items, chooses packages or chooses content blocks. The template decides the content and the client makes the choices.

Can I import all my contacts from a sheet?

Not in bulk through these Zaps. A Zap on new rows can run QuoteCloud's Find or Create Contact, adding each contact unless it already exists, one row at a time. Test it on a short list first.
