Set up MCP and decide what the assistant can reach
Connecting is the short part. The decisions that matter are what the assistant may read, what it may prepare and what always waits for a person.

Add the next job only when the first one is dependable.
Which questions decide what the assistant can reach?
QuoteCloud's article on MCP says an implementation should begin with boundaries. These are its questions, sorted into what to allow and what to keep.
-
Reading
What can it retrieve?
- Which information can it read?Clients, documents, products, approved content: only what the job needs.
- Which customers can a user access?A rep may only need their own clients.
- Read-only?An assistant that helps people find documents may need no write access at all.
-
Preparing
What can it start?
- Can it create a proposal but not send it?The set-up every example on this site uses.
- Can it suggest pricing but not approve a discount?Prices come from your library; discounts are a person's call.
- Can it read an agreement but not alter its wording?Approved terms stay as your team wrote them.
-
Keeping
What needs a person?
- Which actions need human confirmation?Sending, pricing changes, legal terms, commitments.
- Who checks the drafts?Name the reviewer for each job.
- Who owns the set-up?One person decides when to widen it.
These are decisions about your business, agreed when the connection is set up; they are not a QuoteCloud settings screen. Ask our team which controls apply to your account.

Which AI assistant should you use?
Any assistant you connect needs to support MCP, the Model Context Protocol. We don't list tested assistants on this site; if you want to check the one your team uses, ask when you book a demo.
Because MCP is a standard, QuoteCloud's side doesn't change with the assistant: QuoteCloud's article makes the point that a well-designed MCP service separates your business capabilities from the AI application using them, so you can switch later. The assistant's own plan, data handling and costs are set by its provider, so check those with them.
Set-up questions, answered
How do I connect my AI assistant to QuoteCloud?
Check you're on QuoteCloud's Essentials plan or higher, then ask the QuoteCloud team how to connect your assistant, which must support MCP, to your account. Decide first what it should be able to read and do.
Is it an API key, an OAuth sign-in or a server address?
We don't document the connection method on this site. Ask the QuoteCloud team when you book a demo: they can explain how an assistant connects to your account and how its access is controlled.
Can I limit what the assistant can see and do?
That's where every set-up should start. QuoteCloud's guidance is minimum necessary access: expose only the tools and data one workflow needs, such as read-only access for status questions. Agree those limits with our team when you connect, and ask which controls apply to your account.
Can QuoteCloud help us set it up?
Yes. Book a demo to talk through your workflow. The QuoteCloud team also offers professional services such as template conversion, integrations and training, which help get your account ready for an assistant.
