Getting started with QuoteCloud

QuoteCloud and Slack: questions and answers

How the connection works, what can post where, how to keep it quiet, and what it costs.

QuoteCloud connects to Slack through QuoteCloud's Zapier app, on Essentials and up, or through Make as a bring-your-own setup. Zaps post signed deals, first views, comments, approval requests, payments and expired quotes to the channel or person you choose, in your own words. Posting to Slack carries no per-document fee.

How does the Slack connection work?

How does QuoteCloud connect to Slack?

Through QuoteCloud's Zapier app, with no code to write. Each Zap starts from a QuoteCloud event, such as Document Signing Complete, and runs a Slack action, such as Send Channel Message or Send Direct Message, with a message you write. You build one Zap for each moment you want posted.

Is there a built-in Slack integration?

No. QuoteCloud connects to Slack through Zapier, with QuoteCloud's Zapier app on Essentials and up, or through Make as a bring-your-own setup with QuoteCloud's API. Nothing posts until you build and turn on a Zap or a scenario.

Can we use Make instead of Zapier with Slack?

Yes, as a bring-your-own setup. QuoteCloud has no ready-made app on Make: you connect Make to QuoteCloud with Make's built-in OAuth connection, then call QuoteCloud's API or Zapier endpoints from your scenario, beside Make's own Slack modules. API access is on Essentials and up.

What data is shared with Slack?

Only the fields you map into each message, such as the document number, the client and the total. The document itself stays in QuoteCloud, which is hosted on AWS with 256-bit encryption. Who sees a message depends on the channel or person you send it to.

What can post, and where

Which QuoteCloud events can post to Slack?

Any of QuoteCloud's Zapier triggers. The ones teams use most are Document Signing Complete, Recipient First Viewed Document, Document Comment Event, Document Review Requested, Document Review Accepted, Document Part Paid, Document Paid, Document Payment Event, Document Expired and Document Lost.

Can messages go to one person instead of a channel?

Yes. Slack's Send Direct Message sends to one person, and Find User by Email finds them by email, such as the document owner's when the trigger's test data includes it. Use direct messages for news one person acts on, such as a first open or a comment.

Can approvers approve from Slack?

Approve in QuoteCloud. A Zap on Document Review Requested can message the approver with a link to the document, where they approve or reject it. The approval workflow is on QuoteCloud's Business plan.

Can payments post to Slack?

Yes. When a client pays inside the document through QuoteCloud Payments, Document Part Paid, Document Paid and Document Payment Event can start Zaps that post to a private finance channel with Send Private Channel Message. QuoteCloud Payments is on Essentials and up.

Keeping it useful

How do we stop Slack getting noisy?

Post only the moments the whole team acts on to channels, send owner news as direct messages, add Filter by Zapier's Only continue if... for value or template, and collect expired and lost quotes into a weekly digest. Leave drafts, status changes and deliveries in QuoteCloud.

Why use Document Signing Complete instead of Recipient Signed Document?

Document Signing Complete fires once, when every required signature is complete, so a wins channel gets one post per deal. Recipient Signed Document fires for each signer, which suits a direct message to the owner while the others still have to sign.

Can we use Microsoft Teams instead?

Yes. QuoteCloud's Zapier triggers work with Microsoft Teams' own Zapier actions in the same way. See QuoteCloud with Microsoft Teams on the integrations pages.

Plans and cost

Which QuoteCloud plan do I need for Slack?

Essentials or higher: Zapier and API access are on QuoteCloud's Essentials plan and up, from US$39 per user per month. Approval nudges also need the approval workflow, on Business, from US$59 per user per month.

Is there a fee per Slack message?

No. QuoteCloud's per-document fee, US$2.00, $1.80 or $1.60 by volume, applies only to documents created through Zapier or the API. Posting to Slack creates no documents. Each Zap step does use tasks on your Zapier plan.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. QuoteCloud has a free 14-day trial with no credit card required, so you can connect Slack through Zapier and test your Zaps in a private channel before you choose a plan.
