Getting started with QuoteCloud

App development proposals your client can follow

Estimate an iOS, Android or web app by feature and sprint, price the options and get the go-ahead signed with a deposit.

With QuoteCloud an app developer sends an estimate from its own template: discovery, design, build and release as price-table sections with hours as quantities, optional features the client ticks, the sprints on a Gantt chart (Business plan) and a deposit paid on signing. Later hours are invoiced by the developer as they're worked.

A sample app development estimate, GS-A-0207, from a fictional studio, Glasswing Studio, for Lumen Lane Yoga's class-booking app, drawn as a sprint board. Feature cards drop into three columns with their hours: discovery and design (discovery and user flows 40 hours, interface design 56 hours: 96 hours), build (the iOS and Android app 220 hours, the timetable and class-pass connection 60 hours, and push notifications 24 hours, an option the client ticked: 304 hours) and test and release (44 hours). Offline class videos, 48 hours, sit dashed in a Later lane, priced but not ticked. The footer builds to 444 hours, $77,792.00 including tax, with a 20% deposit of $15,558.40 on signing; later hours are invoiced by the studio as they're worked.

An estimate in hours your client can actually follow

Ravi estimates the Lumen Lane app phase by phase: hours as the quantity on each line, at the rate for that kind of work. Push notifications and offline class videos are options Priya can tick, each with its hours and price.

The sprints sit on a Gantt chart under the price, and the assumptions the estimate rests on are a locked block. Priya ticks push notifications, signs and pays the 20% deposit by PayPal; the rest is invoiced as the hours are worked.

  • Hours × rates per phase, with section subtotals
  • Features the client ticks, priced before they decide
  • Assumptions in your locked terms (Business plan)

What changes when estimates go out from QuoteCloud

The same estimating work, without retyping a spreadsheet into a document and a contract.

The jobTodayWith QuoteCloud
The estimate A spreadsheet of hours, pasted into a document as a screenshot. Hours as quantities at your catalogue rates, with totals that update as you change them.
Options "Push notifications: +24 hours" in a paragraph nobody prices. Each option an item with its hours and price that the client ticks before signing.
Sprints A separate plan in your project tool the client never sees. The sprints on a Gantt chart in the estimate they sign (Business plan).
Assumptions Copied from the last estimate, a little different each time. One locked block of assumptions and exclusions, in every estimate (Business plan).
Go-ahead "Looks good" by email, then an invoice for the deposit. Signed online with the deposit paid by card or PayPal in the same visit.
Kick-off Someone creates the project and tickets by hand. A signed estimate can create the project in Jira, Asana or Trello through Zapier or the API.

Sample estimate · GS-A-0207

Eight sprints, planned in the estimate the client signs

The Gantt chart shows when each part of the app is designed, built and tested, and where the push notifications fit if they're ticked. It's your plan, not project tracking: the sprints themselves run in your own tools.

From a feature list to a signed app estimate

Five steps from the scoping call to an estimate your client signs and pays a deposit on.

  1. Choose the engagement

Start from your fixed-fee, hours or retainer template for this kind of app.

  2. Estimate the hours

Add each phase from your catalogue with the hours as the quantity at the right rate.

  3. Price the options

Add features the client may want later as optional items, each with its own hours.

  4. Set out the sprints

Lay out the sprints on the Gantt chart and drop in your locked assumptions (Business plan).

  5. Sign and start

Send with a deposit. Once it's signed, your project tool can get the project through Zapier or the API.

App estimates: your questions

How do I write an app development estimate in QuoteCloud?

Start from your app template, add each phase as a section and put the hours as the quantity on each line at your rate for that work. Add features the client may want as optional items, lay out the sprints on a Gantt chart on the Business plan, and set a deposit to be paid when the client signs.

Can clients choose which app features to include?

Yes. Each feature can be an optional item with its own hours and price. The client ticks what they want while reading, the totals and deposit update, and they sign the version they chose. Only the client ticks options: automations can create the document and add rows, but they don't tick options for anyone.

Does QuoteCloud track my hours or bill time?

No. The hours in an estimate are your own estimate, and QuoteCloud takes only the deposit or full payment on signing through Stripe or PayPal. You track time and invoice the hours worked from your own time-tracking and accounting tools.

Does QuoteCloud connect to GitHub, Jira or the app stores?

Not directly. A signed estimate can trigger a Zap or an API call that creates a project or tickets in Jira, Asana, monday.com or Trello, from the Essentials plan. There is no code-repository, app store or issue-tracker integration built into QuoteCloud.

Which templates suit app and software projects?

The IT or Software Project Proposal template is a good start for an estimate, and the Agile Software Development Contract template for the terms. Open either, add your phases, rates and assumptions, and save it as your own template for the next app.
