Manufacturers show quantity breaks in QuoteCloud either as a table in the quote, with the quoted quantity marked, or as alternative rows in a single-choice group the buyer picks from. Tooling, fixtures, moulds, plates and CAM programming go on one-off lines, and the tooling can be paid on signing.
A sample price-break chart from a fictional job shop, Tessmore Engineering, for the QR-220 sensor housing in 6061-T6 aluminium with black anodise. The unit price steps down from $27.20 at 100 pieces to $23.26 at 250, $20.31 at 500 and $18.10 at 1,000. A dashed line shows the all-in price per part, with the $2,130 of one-off tooling spread over the order, and the tooling stands beside the chart as one bar, paid once. A highlight walks the breaks and settles on the quoted 500: unit price $20.31, tooling share $4.26, all-in $24.57, lead time 5 weeks, and $2,343.00 of tooling paid on signing.

What one part really costs at each break
Buyers weigh the unit price against the tooling. Pick a quantity to see the tooling spread over the order, then see what a repeat order costs once the tools are paid for.

This page does these sums to show the idea. In your quote the breaks are your own prices, written as a table or as alternative rows; QuoteCloud doesn't calculate breaks or spread tooling by rule.
A table of breaks, or a choice of quantities
Most RFQ responses show the breaks as a table: one quantity priced in the quote, every other break beside it for reference.
When the buyer decides the quantity, write each break as an alternative row in a single-choice group. They pick 250, 500 or 1,000 pieces and the total, tax and lead time follow. Try it in the quote here: the tooling stays the same fixed one-off whichever row they choose.
- A table: one quantity quoted, the others for reference
- Alternative rows: the buyer picks one quantity
- Tooling stays a one-off line either way
- The break prices are yours: nothing applies them by rule

Sample quote · TE-Q-2417
Tooling paid before the first cut
Quenda Robotics paid for the fixtures and CAM programming the moment they accepted, a fixed amount set on the quote. The parts go on 30-day account, invoiced on dispatch from Tessmore's own system.
Breaks and tooling in five steps
How a shop sets up its quantity breaks and one-off lines once, then reuses them on every RFQ.
- 1
Price each break
Work out your unit price at each quantity in your own costing, as you do now.
- 2
Pick table or rows
A table when you quote one quantity; alternative rows in a single-choice group when the buyer chooses.
- 3
Tooling on its own lines
Fixtures, moulds, plates, formes and programming as one-off lines, noted as kept for repeat orders.
- 4
Set the payment on signing
A fixed amount for the tooling, paid through Stripe or PayPal when the buyer signs.
- 5
Repeat orders, no tooling
Next time, quote from the same template without the one-off lines: the tools are already paid for.
Price break and tooling questions, answered
Can QuoteCloud apply quantity price breaks automatically?
No. Quantity breaks are your own pricing: you write them into the quote, either as a table with the quoted quantity marked or as alternative rows in a single-choice group the buyer picks from. QuoteCloud doesn't have tiered or volume pricing rules that change the price by quantity.
Should we show breaks as a table or as alternative rows?
Use a table when you are quoting one quantity and want the buyer to see the other breaks for reference. Use alternative rows when the buyer decides the quantity: they pick one row and the total, tax and any payment on signing follow. Both are price-table features on Essentials and above.
How do we show tooling and NRE separately from the unit price?
Put fixtures, moulds, printing plates, cutting formes and programming on their own one-off lines, in a section of the price table separate from the parts, with a note such as 'kept for repeat orders'. The buyer sees exactly what is paid once and what is paid per part.
Can the buyer pay for the tooling when they sign?
Yes. Set a payment on signing on the document, either a fixed amount such as the tooling plus tax or a percentage of the total, paid through Stripe or PayPal on Essentials and above. QuoteCloud doesn't take instalments or bill later payments; invoice the parts from your own system.
How do repeat orders work when the tooling is already paid?
Quote the repeat order from the same template without the one-off lines, and note that the tooling is held from the first order. Revise Last Version helps when only the quantity changes before signing; a new order after signing is a new quote.
