The drawing, the spec and the price in one quote
Place the customer's drawing as a page, mark up photos of samples and features, and write your assumptions beside them.

- Building QuoteCloud since 2013
Manufacturers place the customer's drawing in a QuoteCloud quote as a PDF page or an image, mark up photos of samples, first-offs or features in the built-in image editor (Starter and up), and list their assumptions and exceptions beside the price. QuoteCloud doesn't read CAD files or price from drawings.
The customer's drawing of the QR-220 sensor housing from a fictional client, Quenda Robotics, placed in a sample quote from a fictional job shop, Tessmore Engineering. The drawing starts at Rev A. Revision clouds then draw around the bore and the engraving, each flagged B, and the title block changes to Rev B. The quote card follows: version 1, quoted to Rev A on 14 Oct at $19.85 a part, is kept in the history, and version 2, quoted to Rev B, is marked Revised at $20.31 a part. The changes listed: bore Ø32 H7, masked before anodise; engrave the part number, 3 high.

Their drawing, placed in your quote
Place the customer's drawing as a PDF page or an image, then list its callouts beside it in your own words: the bore, the threads, the pocket, the edges, the engraving. The engineer can see you read the drawing they sent.
QuoteCloud shows the drawing. It doesn't open CAD files, read dimensions or work out a price from them: your estimator does the reading and the costing, and the quote records which revision was quoted.
- The drawing as a PDF page or an image
- Callouts listed as text the buyer can read and search
- The revision in the quote's title and every part
- The whole quote as a PDF for their files

A first-off sample, marked up for their engineer
Photograph the first-off part or a sample and mark it up in QuoteCloud's image editor: rings, arrows, text and highlights on the features the engineer cares about.
Here Callum marked the masked bore and the broken edges on the QR-220 first-off, so Quenda's engineer could see both before approving the batch. The editor works on images: a drawing exported as an image can be marked up too.
- Crop, rotate, text, shapes, arrows, highlight and freehand
- Numbered marks the buyer can match to the notes
- Photos of samples, first-offs and features

What to state beside every drawing
Engineers check these first. Put them in your RFQ template as standard assumptions, then add the exceptions for each job.
The revision you quoted
Drawing number and revision in the title and in each part's section. A new revision is a revised quote.
Material and temper
6061-T6 or 7075-T6, sheet or bar, and who supplies the certificates.
Tolerances you'll hold
Where you hold the drawing and where you quote an exception, such as flatness after anodising.
Finish and masking
The finish, its colour and the faces or bores masked before it goes on.
Inspection and reports
First article inspection, dimensional reports and certificates, as options the buyer can tick.
What's not included
Exclusions in plain words: heat treatment, special packaging, freight to site.

A new revision, quoted without losing the old one
Quenda issued Rev B while Tessmore's first quote was still open. Callum used Revise Last Version: the quote became version 2, marked Revised, at the new price, and version 1 stayed in the history.
Write what changed into the assumptions so the buyer signs the right revision. Once a quote is signed, a later drawing revision gets a new quote of its own.
- Revise Last Version before anyone signs
- Earlier versions kept in the version history

Version 1 Superseded
Quoted to drawing Rev A: 500 pcs at $19.85, bore Ø32 +0.1 / 0.
Callum Reid · Wed 14 Oct, 11:30 am
Revise Last Version makes a new version marked Revised before anyone signs and keeps the earlier one. Once a quote is signed, a new drawing revision gets a new quote.
Assumptions and exceptions
- Quoted to drawing QR-220 Rev B. A new revision is quoted as a revised quote.
- Material certificates supplied with every batch.
- The bore is masked before anodising so it stays to H7.
- Packed 25 to a carton with dividers; pallets wrapped.
SLSofia LindqvistCan you hold H7 on the bore after anodising, or should we open it up?
TECallum, TessmoreWe mask the bore before anodising, so H7 holds. Noted in the assumptions.
Quote to a drawing in five steps
What your estimator does when a drawing arrives with an RFQ.
- 1
Place the drawing
Add the customer's drawing to the quote as a PDF page or an image.
- 2
List the callouts
Write each feature you're pricing beside it, numbered to match the drawing.
- 3
State the revision
Name the drawing number and revision in the title and each part's section.
- 4
Write the exceptions
Under your standard assumptions, add anything you're quoting differently.
- 5
Revise if it changes
A new revision before signing? Revise Last Version and the old one stays in the history.
Drawing and specification questions, answered
Can we put the customer's drawing in a quote?
Yes. Place the drawing as a PDF page or an image in the quote, and list its callouts beside it as text so the buyer can read and search them. Image blocks and PDF export are on the Starter plan and above.
Does QuoteCloud read CAD or STEP files?
No. QuoteCloud doesn't open or parse CAD, STEP or DXF files, doesn't read dimensions and doesn't work out a price or check manufacturability from a drawing. Your estimator reads the drawing and prices the part; the drawing goes into the quote as a page or image the buyer reads.
Can we mark up photos of samples or features?
Yes. The built-in image editor crops, rotates and adds text, shapes, arrows, highlights and freehand marks to images on the Starter plan and above. Use it on photos of first-offs and samples, or on a drawing exported as an image.
What happens when the customer issues a new drawing revision?
Before the quote is signed, use Revise Last Version: QuoteCloud makes a new version marked Revised and keeps the earlier one, with version history on the Business plan. After a quote is signed, quote the new revision as a new document.
Can the buyer's engineer ask about a tolerance in the quote?
Yes. Recipients can comment on the document and your team replies in the same thread. Write the answer into your assumptions or exceptions so it is part of what the buyer signs.
