QuoteCloud's template library includes agreement templates such as a non-disclosure agreement, a last will and testament, a divorce settlement agreement and an asset purchase agreement. There is no law-firm engagement letter or costs agreement template, so your firm builds its own from its precedents. QuoteCloud converts one template free during the trial on Essentials, Business and Enterprise.
A fictional firm's conveyancing costs agreement template as four sheets behind index tabs that take turns at the front: the cover with the clients' names, the scope of work, the costs table with fixed fees and disbursements, and the standard terms.

From a Word precedent to a QuoteCloud template
There is no law-firm engagement letter or costs agreement template in the library, so your firm builds its own from the precedents it already trusts. Here is what changes.
Data items for the matter, locked terms for the firm
Inside a template, the parts that change for each matter (the clients' names, the property, the dates) are data items, filled when the agreement is created by your team or through Zapier or the API.
The parts that mustn't change sit in locked blocks from your library, so the standard terms in every agreement are the wording your principal approved. Clients can still comment on them, and your team answers in the same document.
- Data items for client, matter and dates
- Scope clauses from the content library
- Standard terms in a locked block
- Comments and replies on the terms

How a precedent becomes a QuoteCloud template
The usual order for a firm's first template.
- 1
Pick the precedent
Start with the letter you send most, such as your conveyancing costs agreement.
- 2
Have it converted
Send it to QuoteCloud during the trial: one template conversion is free on Essentials, Business and Enterprise.
- 3
Mark the data items
Turn the client's names, the matter and the dates into data items, filled for each new matter.
- 4
Library and locks
Save scope clauses to the library and lock the standard terms (Business), after your own legal review.
- 5
Send the first one
Send it to a real client, see how they sign, then build the next practice area's template from it.
Your wording
Templates are starting points, not legal advice
QuoteCloud sets out and sends what your firm writes. Whether an agreement suits a matter, or meets your jurisdiction's rules, is your firm's call, which is why the precedents you already trust should become the templates.
Template questions from law firms
Does QuoteCloud have a costs agreement or engagement letter template for law firms?
Not in the template library. The library has agreement templates such as a non-disclosure agreement, a last will and testament, a divorce settlement agreement and an asset purchase agreement, but no law-firm engagement letter or costs agreement. Your firm builds its own from the precedents it already uses, and QuoteCloud converts one template free during the trial.
Are QuoteCloud's legal templates ready to use as they are?
Treat them as starting points. QuoteCloud gives no legal advice, and a template from the library hasn't been checked against your jurisdiction or your client's matter. Review and adapt the wording before you send it, then save your version as your firm's own template.
How does template conversion work?
Send QuoteCloud an existing document, such as your engagement letter, and it is rebuilt as a QuoteCloud template with your branding, sections and price table. One conversion is free during the trial on Essentials, Business and Enterprise. More conversions are available as a paid add-on through professional services.
Can we stop fee earners changing our standard terms?
Yes, on the Business plan. Content locking keeps a block, such as your standard terms of engagement, from being edited in the documents built from it. Fee earners can still fill data items, choose scope clauses from the library and set the fees, so each agreement fits the matter.
Can we have one template per practice area?
Yes. Most firms keep one template per matter type, for example conveyancing purchase, wills and powers of attorney, family property settlement and commercial lease, each with its own scope clauses and costs table. The scope clauses and standard terms they share live once in the content library.
