Solar and battery quoting questions, answered
Sizing sheets, rebates, signing, deposits and integrations: what QuoteCloud does and doesn't do for a solar business.
- 5/5 on G2
- 4.2 on Capterra
- Building QuoteCloud since 2013
This FAQ answers what solar retailers and installers ask about QuoteCloud: how the Spreadsheet block sizes systems and connects to the price table, how rebate and incentive lines work, signing by both homeowners, deposits on signing, website automation and integrations, and what QuoteCloud doesn't do.
Sizing sheets and the Spreadsheet block
What is QuoteCloud's Spreadsheet block?
A full spreadsheet inside the proposal, like Google Sheets: rows and columns, normal functions such as SUM, ROUND, ROUNDUP, IF, SUMPRODUCT and XLOOKUP, several tabs with cross-tab references, number formats, merged cells, drag to fill and automatic recalculation. Solar retailers use it as their sizing calculator. It's included on Essentials and up.
Can I use the Excel sizing calculator I already have?
Yes. Import the .xlsx into a Spreadsheet block and its tabs, formulas and formats come with it. Check the results against a few recent jobs, then connect the cells that should price the proposal. One template conversion is free during the trial if you'd like help.
How does the sheet connect to the price table?
Any cell can be connected to a price line's description and unit price, so a cell that works out "15 × 440 W panels" and its price writes both into the panels line. It also works the other way: a price table total can be brought back into a cell, for example to calculate your payback estimate from the price the household chose.
Can a cell set the quantity on a price line?
Quantities are set on the price line as usual. The connected cells set a line's description and unit price, so solar retailers price a whole system as a qty-1 line whose description and price come from the sheet, such as "15 × 440 W panels" at the sheet's price.
Does QuoteCloud design the system or calculate savings?
No. QuoteCloud runs the formulas you put in your sheet. It doesn't design systems, model shading or calculate yield by itself. Generation, saving and payback figures are your estimates from your own assumptions, labelled as estimates or assumptions in the sheet, and never guaranteed.
Does the sheet pull in tariffs, weather or sun-hour data?
No. The sheet uses what's typed into it and the rates and assumptions you keep on its tabs, such as peak sun hours and system performance. It doesn't fetch tariffs, weather, irradiance or rebate data from anywhere. Update your rates tab in the template when your figures change.
The two-way link, in one picture
Left to right: connected cells on the System tab set the panels, racking, inverter, installation and battery lines' descriptions and unit prices; the chips in the editor view show which cell feeds which line. Right to left: the price table total is brought back into Payback!B2, so the payback estimate always reads the price the household actually chose.
Quantities, optional items and the battery choice stay on the price table, as on any QuoteCloud price table.

Pricing, choices and rebates
How do I show a rebate or incentive in a solar proposal?
As a line or a discount you enter on the price table, with your own figure and wording, for example labelled as the installer's figure. QuoteCloud doesn't calculate, create or claim rebates or incentives, and doesn't check whether a household is eligible.
Can homeowners choose the battery size in the proposal?
Yes. Put the battery sizes in a single-choice group, with "no battery for now" as an option if you like, and an EV charger as a line to tick. The total, the deposit and any cell fed by the price table total follow the household's choice.
Can I offer solar-only, battery and EV packages?
Yes. A packages block offers good, better and best as one choice that sets the package line on the price table, with extras to tick underneath. Use it beside or instead of the sizing sheet, depending on how you sell.
Can I keep my costs and margins out of the proposal?
Yes. Price tables have a cost column, and costs and margins are hidden from the client. Your sheet's internal rates can sit on their own tab. Tax is added the way it's set on your account, whether sales tax, VAT or GST.
How do I stop old supply prices being accepted?
Give every proposal an expiry date, and use the Expiring Soon filter to see which are about to lapse. When prices change, update the rates tab and the product catalogue in your template, and new proposals pick them up.

Signing, deposits and the install
Can both homeowners sign?
Yes. A proposal can have several signers, online from their own devices or in person on your tablet. Nobody needs an account. Signers aren't put in a set order, and the signed proposal carries a certificate of authenticity and an audit trail.
Is an eSignature on a solar contract legally binding?
QuoteCloud eSignatures are legally binding and eIDAS compliant, with a certificate of authenticity and an audit trail on every signed document, and an optional one-time passcode by email. Your contract wording, including any cooling-off terms, is your own: QuoteCloud doesn't give legal advice.
Can I take a deposit when the household signs?
Yes, on Essentials and up. Set a deposit as a percentage or fixed amount, or full payment for small jobs, and it's paid through Stripe or PayPal as they sign. You need a connected Stripe or PayPal account.
Does QuoteCloud collect the balance or offer finance?
No. The balance is your own invoice after the install. QuoteCloud doesn't take instalments, send payment reminders, bill automatically, or arrange finance, loans or power purchase agreements.
Can the proposal show the install programme?
Yes. A Gantt chart block (Business plan) can set out your steps from signing to switch-on: connection approval, ordering, install day and handover. It's your plan and your estimate of timing; QuoteCloud doesn't apply for grid connection or issue compliance paperwork.
What QuoteCloud doesn't do, so you know where it stops
Clear limits, so nobody promises a homeowner something the software doesn't do.
Design the system
No roof layouts, shading models or yield calculations: your sheet holds your own sizing logic.
Fetch outside data
No tariffs, weather, irradiance or rebate data pulled from the web; inputs are typed in or on your rates tab.
Work out rebates
No rebate or incentive calculated, created or claimed, and no eligibility checks: it's a line with your figure.
Arrange finance
No loans, power purchase agreements or instalments: a deposit or full payment on signing only.
Apply to the grid
No grid-connection applications or compliance certificates; your accreditation stays yours.
Guarantee savings
Every saving and payback figure is your estimate, labelled as one in the sheet.
Chase the balance
No payment reminders or automatic billing: the balance is your invoice after the install.
Write proposals on its own
The AI Co-Worker helps staff in the editor (Business), and its output is flagged until accepted.
Automation and integrations
Can my website enquiry form create a proposal?
Yes. On Essentials and up, the API, Zapier or Make can create a proposal from your template, fill data items such as name and address, and add price rows. Through Zapier, the enquiry's answers, such as the bills and evening share, can also be written into the sheet's input cells, so the sheet recalculates and the connected lines follow.
Can an automation choose the battery for the household?
No. Automations don't tick optional items, choose a battery option or choose which blocks go in. Zapier can write values into the sheet's input cells; the choices stay with the household, and a consultant checks the draft before it's sent.
What does API or Zapier automation cost?
API and Zapier are on Essentials and up, with a fee per document created that way: US$2.00 each for 1 to 1,000 a month, US$1.80 each from 1,001 to 5,000, and US$1.60 each above 5,000. No per-document fee is stated for Make.
Which CRMs and accounting systems connect?
HubSpot and Zoho CRM through Zapier; Pipedrive connects directly; Xero and QuickBooks Online natively on the Business plan, otherwise through Zapier; simPRO and ServiceM8 through Zapier; Google Calendar one way through Zapier. Other systems connect through Zapier, Make or the API where they have a connector.
What do Slack and Microsoft Teams alerts cover?
Alerts for document updates, comments and actions, posted to the channel you choose. For a step that should follow a signature or a payment, such as creating an install job, use Zapier triggers like Signed Document and Document Payment Event.
